The worst airline we have ever traveled with. My husband, my baby, and I were coming from NYC, and since the airport is small, there was a long line for check-in. We asked one of the airline staff if they could help us skip the line because we were already running late. The girl told us she couldn’t move us ahead in line, and even though the plane was still there and we could have boarded, she said it would be better if we canceled the flight and traveled the next day. My husband trusted her, but not only were there no flights until the following week, they also charged us an enormous amount in cancellation fees. In the end, one of the employees told us it would have been better to simply no-show instead of canceling, and that the staff member just didn’t know that policy, without taking any responsibility whatsoever, not caring that she left three adults and a baby stranded without a way home, and taking our money for unnecessary fees.

Flew a DIRECT 2 hour flight from Nashville to New Haven and upon receiving my luggage at the terminal, my bag was badly torn and punctured in the upper right corner. When I submitted a claim, the response I received was impersonal, and told me that because I didn’t submit a claims within 4 HOURS, it was invalid. If this was a flight that contained layovers and multiple baggage movement, I would maybe understand a little bit. Like I addressed before, this was a direct flight with my suitcase being put on the plane, and taken off the plane. There was no need for excessive force for my luggage to be destroyed as much as it was. I wasn’t even home in a 4 hour span, and submitting a photo for review was difficult because they wouldn’t accept a standard photo size of 1.6MB. By the time I was actually able to, the response and lack of responsibility for my damage was completely brushed aside. Not to mention, on our flight down to Nashville was delayed 8 HOURS, causing us to miss a whole day. The lack of communication, empathy, and professionalism from this airline was beyond belief.

Usually I praise Avelo…I walk to the airport from my house, flights are cheap, direct options from New England outside of NYC or Boston are hard to find. I love them because they are my literally direct connection to my home in GA (although Savannah service cuts out right at football season for my Georgia Southern Eagles 👎🏻). I rarely have to take a bag, so it’s easy for me. but this time was a bit different although we did get home safe… We paid for extra Brian Leg room..because well he’s not as vertically challenged like me, and it WAS worth it. HOWEVER, the oversold flight, the Mexico Avelo on boarding, the gate changes, The wait, The hassle for a printed boarding pass that was not communicated, The hour delay for boarding, the extra hour delay for take off, The smell of the plane (someone had issues on the flight prior and it showed…) was extremely disappointing and honestly gave me anxiety from other trips when I promote Avelo HARD core from New Haven. Thankfully, we arrived safe and we were next to the seat that wasn’t there instead of in 23D… THAT WASNT THERE. My friend paid for purity boarding and was denied. She also paid for seats and was told she couldn’t move back on an empty plane, but then people who didn’t pay loved around without paying. I could tell the flight attendant was trying and was just as annoyed but Mexican Avelo flight attendant as we were. We loved Cancun but the added stress to get home after a nice vacation was unacceptable and totally not needed. If you are flying Avelo from Mexico, print out your boarding pass to not have to get back in line and good luck.

Booked for the wrong week. Tried to rebook weeks ahead of time and still tried charging me more than my original flight. I then changed my flights and they charged me a second time but then had no record of me changing it. Customer service was absolutely zero help, no one knows anything about the change or the money they took out. No wonder the flights are cheap when you have to book them 3 times with no refund

This was hands down the worst airline experience I’ve ever had. My flight (XP582 from Wilmington, DE to San Juan, PR) was delayed for over three hours, and the way Avelo handled the situation was completely unacceptable. For the first hour, there was no explanation at all. By the second hour, they vaguely mentioned a possible mechanical issue. By the third hour, they finally admitted the truth: a front landing gear braking system failure. After hours of waiting, they told us we would be taking off soon. But instead of fixing the aircraft, they said we would be flying to Orlando, not Wilmington, because the plane still wasn’t repaired. Then they told us our checked bags could not be unloaded, leaving us with no choice but to stay with this supposedly “unfixable” aircraft. And after all of that — after everyone was boarded — Avelo turned around and canceled the flight anyway. We never took off at all. Hours wasted, zero transparency, and no accountability. When I called customer service, they only refunded half of my ticket, claiming only the return segment was canceled. No compensation for the hours lost, no compensation for food, for the rental car I used to get to the airport, for the extended parking fees, or for the last-minute one-way ticket I had to buy (which cost as much as my original round-trip). A complete sham of an airline. Their communication is terrible, their operations are unreliable, and their customer service is dismissive. Do not fly Avelo. If they cancel your flight, you’ll be stranded, out money, and fighting for even the smallest refund while they take zero responsibility for their mistakes.

One of the best airlines! They have the same jets as southwest Airlines with comfortable seats. Flying out of new haven is convenient, quick and affordable! Avelo Airlines has aggressively inexpensive pricing. A definite must.

BUYER BEWARE This is a public service warning to anyone booking a flight on Avelo: I wanted to change a flight that was previously booked, but because I had to change destinations Avelo made me cancel our flight and book another. Because the original flight was canceled within 2 weeks of travel, Avelo withheld 25% of the original booking fee, which I expected. What I hadn’t expected was that Avelo also withheld 25% of the luggage fees and taxes too! So be warned: if you are booking a flight that you might need to change you may want to wait and NOT prepay the luggage fees. The minor amount saved by prepaying baggage fees will be more than offset by the 25-50% cancellation penalty that Avelo withholds if you need to cancel.

AVELO PLUS SCAM: Currently trying to book a business flight with my avelo plus account and it will not let me book a flight. It will let non members book flights. I’ve trouble shot it for two hours trying to book. When I called avelos hotline they told me it was a problem on my end after I did everything they told me to do for it to work. They said it’s fine on there system. It would allow me to book non avelo plus and charge me more. They can not book avelo plus members through the phone (of course). And they can not guarantee the price will go up. In other words they’re commuting fraud to the people that paid there fee. And pick and choose when they allow avelo plus to work or not. The people on the phone hung up on me as soon as I called it fraud. Last flight avelo did not put my bag on the plane and I had to drive all the way back to the airport the next day to get my bag becuse of there negligence. They’re going downhill fast. Not sure if I will fly with them anymore.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS AIRLINES. I travel a lot. I booked a flight for my sister in law, who never travels, to go to her son's wedding. Sent the boarding pass to her and she printed it off. She got to the airport 2 hours early in New Haven. The boarding pass wouldn't scan to check in and the agent refused to help her. She had her conf#, ID and everything she needed and they sent her to a service line with an hour wait. She finally got it resolved with 16 minutes to spare and they told her the doors were closed and they wouldn't let her on the plane. I called and tried to get her on the later flight and they said it was sold out and they refused to make the accommodation to help her. She is now missing the wedding and reception and on top of that, they are refusing to give me a credit for the flight. Inexcusable customer service and my heart is breaking for her. Can you imagine being treated like this?

We have only used this airline to fly in and out of New Haven. Flying in is no problem but flying out, particularly if you have to check baggage is a nightmare. Obviously they need to enlarge this airport to accommodate real passenger loads. We give this location and airline two clams on the coveted Five Quahog Rating Scale.
