I'm normally a very optimistic, positive guy, so it pains me to say this: This place is a DUMP. I'm new to aviation, and training for my Private Pilot Certificate. I've only been to a few FBOs so far - and all of them except Signature I've seen so far are modern inside and out, bright, welcoming, and immaculately cared for. Signature looks like it hasn't been updated since 1996. The parking lot is a sprained ankle waiting to happen. The asphalt is all broken and bumpy. The main facing facade across from the ramp parking doesn't look like it's been painted since Reagan was President. The entry door from the parking lot looks like you're entering a prison facility. Inside, it looks just as dated and bland. On a positive note, the staff is nice, friendly, and quick to respond, and my interactions with them have been excellent. It seems to me that Santa Barbara is such a beautiful place, and there's something really wrong to have let the Airport FBO physically fall into such disrepair and malaise. I really hope there's plans to fix it. It's not going to happen by itself. It requires ambitious effort and motivation. There's so much potential here. I hope to see it.
