This airport is a small one but definitely big in convenience. They offer similar services to the bigger airports. Friendly staff, organized TSA/ security, comfortable atmosphere, snacks, vending /pop machines, luggage carts, snack bar, and so much more. The access is easy, parking plentiful, rental cars, and two big airlines - Delta and United provide service!

I've been flying in and out of MBS (and DTW and Bishop) my whole life. Pros are that it's a small airport with a friendly staff and no security lines. It's actually pretty funny to have TSA Precheck here because it's just you in the line holding your little Precheck pass, but at least you don't have to take your shoes off! Since the remodel, the airport feels more light and spacious, and the water is no longer well water πŸ™ŒπŸ». There's no traffic to get there and it's less than 20 minutes for my dad to come pick me up. The cons are, unfortunately, pretty major, though you didn't have a lot of choice in mid Michigan. - Only 2 airlines fly in and out: United, aka The Worst Major Airline, and Delta, aka The Major Airline with the Worst Schedule. I much, much prefer Delta, but since I live on the West Coast, there's usually only one option a day for me via Delta, and it's almost always the worst possible timing. So I end up with United, which is a little cheaper and will fly you in the absolute oldest, most rickety-feeling plane they can legally operate, with approximately 2 inches of legroom and about a 5 minute layover at O'Hare to sprint across 3 terminals and either miss your connection or be just on time to sit on the tarmac for an hour. The other problem is delays. At any other airport, I recommend the time tested travel advice to take the earliest possible flight so you are the least likely to be delayed. At MBS, however, you should leave whenever you feel like it and just make sure you have an extra long layover at your connecting airport. You'll need it, because even though MBS is a small airport with few flights and should, by all laws of man and nature, be able to board flights quickly, that unfortunately is not the case. I truly have no idea what is going on, but it takes longer to board the tiny puddle jumpers that fly out of MBS then any large international airliner I've ever flown. Then you have to be prepared for the inevitable delay. It doesn't matter what time of day or year you fly, for some reason, every single United flight out of MBS seems to sit on the tarmac for at least a half hour to 45 minutes, sometimes more. Inevitably there are some sort of excuse about "weather" or something, even if there's not a cloud in the sky. I usually fly out of PDX, and even though it rains 9 months out of the year here, I rarely had a flight delay out of a much bigger airport. But United out of MBS is delayed almost every time. I would pay just about any amount of money for a direct flight from my home to my hometown, but unfortunately that is unlikely to happen, and I'm stuck flying out of MBS or Bishop, or renting a car and driving up from Detroit. Detroit. Honestly, if it were significantly cheaper I would fly out of Flint every time, given that it's only an hour drive and I've had much better luck actually getting my flight off the ground there, but most of the time the price is negligible for the extra drive and having to deal with traffic. I should also mention that the snack bar isn't always open if you leave early in the morning, and if they are, be ready for some seriously burnt coffee and no alternative milks.

I normally would expect less from a very tiny airport, but I was pleasantly surprised with how clean and nice the airport was. Though there isn’t a real restaurant they have a concession stand with lots of snacks. TSA took less than 3 minutes!

A nice comfortable airport to fly out of the tri cities. If you fly through here you're probably going through either United for a Chicago layover/destination or Delta for a Detroit layover/destination. The price to leave our car here over a long trip was reasonable. It's also nice that you don't need to worry about traffic as it's a small airport. If you fly out of Flint or Detroit, you'll save a bit on your ticket, but probably spend a similar amount in gas. And then you'll have the headaches of driving into and finding your way through a bigger airport. But at the same time it will limit your options more on which flights you can take if you go through a small airport like this. Often your best bet is to see if there is a good option flying out of MBS first. Then seeing what Flint or Detroit has if not.
