    Avianca is famous for disrespectful and unprofessional service. They regularly treat native English speaking and white travelers better than Spanish speaking and Latino travelers - trust us we are a blended family. They use fear tactics as a cover for their incompetentence. We were told our dog would be euthanized upon arrival without the proper form. Upon arrival the very friendly CDC officers said that is not true at all and in fact it's easy to apply for the form upon interview if necessary. The Avianca check in agent said they would kill our little 10 pound doggie, and our children cried. Avianca is the worst airline we have ever used during our 27 years of air travel. Seats do not recline. Passengers are treated without dignity - passengers are challenged to act dignified when they are treated like chattel. Sure, we can all swallow a ton of unnecessary stress if we have too. But why? The Avianca check in line wraps all around the airport and moves super slow. So difficult to understand and accept the incompetence and complete lack of respect for humanity. Fly United or any other airline. Avoid avoid avoid Avianca.

    If you are a US CITIZEN, do not fly Avianca. I was supposed to travel today, leaving from O'Hare airport, and they refused to give me boarding pass because I am a US citizen. They demanded a return ticket even though my itinerary was to travel by road following my flight.

    No good customer service at all. They sent you away in any chance they can get. They sent me away in ORD on Friday afternoon afer doing an hour line to say they cant help me - counter 66. Went back for my bags the next day same thing.

    Worst experience ever! Flight from Chicago delayed multiple times with little to no reason given. Customer service was rude and not helpful. Finally get to board only to be locked in the ramp for 20 mins with a screaming child. Taxed to take iff and sat on the runway for another hour. Then told we had to go to a holding site. Currently still sitting in the plane with no explanation, no food, no drinks, and estimated time to leave and it’s now been 7 hours since our initial take off time. Awful and they don’t care at all

    For the first time we purchased our tickets for our trip to Brazil through Avianca Arlines and it was the worse experience we’ve ever had. A few days before our trip, we got emails that our flight had changed the time which would give us only an hour to catch our flight connection in Bogota to São Paulo. We were worried with this change but we thought we could still make it. However, on our way to São Paulo our flight delayed in Chicago which made we miss our flight connection in Bogota to São Paulo. The airline was only able to reschedule our flight to next day which made us loose our car rental reservation at the GRU airport. Since we didn’t show up in time we missed our car rental and there were no more cars available because of the holidays. We had to figure out a ride out of the airport and we were only able to rent a car the next day outside of the airport but it costed us $150 more than what we had reserved before. Besides that on our way back it was another nightmare. Our flight from Sao Paulo to Bogota changed twice which again made us miss our flight connection in Bogota to Chicago. Avianca rescheduled our flight connection but instead of one more flight to Chicago we had to take two flights. One to Fort Lauderdale and then another one to Chicago which were very close time wise and we had to run every time to be able to made it to our flight connection. With these changes on the way back we missed the last train in Chicago to Princeton so we had to pay for a night in a hotel in Chicago , pay an Uber to get to the hotel and buy the train tickets for the next day. All extra expenses that we were not counting on. In total we spent over $500 more than what we had planned and budgeted for this trip because of all the changes and delays that Avianca did during our trip. When we purchased the tickets with Avianca it was supposed to be one of the fastest trip we’ve had to Brazil. But it turned out to be to longest and most stressful one. We want a compensation that will cover all these extra costs that we had They gave us zero compensation. GARBAGE Airline. We will never fly Avianca again.
