Worst airline ever! Been stuck at sfo for over 8 hours with 2 small children due to delays, then have us board just to delay again and unboard us all because they don’t have the staff, forced to reclaim luggage which is delayed another hour. Delays and technical issues happen but the communication and poor management is embarrassing. Look at all the luggage pulled off the carousel for all the stranded passengers.

United is a new low among airlines. Can't manage your flight without registering an account, and registration doesn't work. Can't check in online because "we need to check your documents" even after I uploaded all my documents. Can't check in at the goddamn self check-in kiosk because "we need to check your bag, our employee will be with you shortly" and nobody came after 5 minutes. Even after checking in, I still need to get a new boarding pass at the gate because the seat was not assigned. Gosh you people are silly.

So consider yourselves warned. On 9/4/25, I boarded my flight UA875 from SF to Tokyo. Three hours later, we were forced to deboard due to mechanical issues. Subsequently we reboarded another plane and left for Tokyo 4 hours after deboarding. 7 total hours late. While in route to Tokyo, we encountered more engine problems which forced us to divert to Anchorage, Alaska where we were required to wait 16 hours minimum for pilot regulations. Interesting enough I had to pay for my Uber to the hotel and the food vouchers, 2 for $15 each, were worthless because the entire airport was closed. Never got to use them. The next day, 09/05/25, at 1645 hrs, we departed from Anchorage to Tokyo arriving at 1703 hrs, 27 hrs after my scheduled arrival time which forced me to miss my group's meet and greet dinner and my paid for luxury hotel room at the Tokyo Prince Hotel. Furthermore, I also missed an entire day with my travel company not seeing most of Tokyo. All of which I paid for in advance. Here's the best part. United Airlines said so sad too bad. Here's a $15 voucher. $15! Oh, they offered $125.00 flight voucher, too. None of which comes close to compensation for what I lost. You cant make this up. Fly another Airline like American or JAL. United Airlines cares nothing about it's customers. I will avoid them in the future, I suggest you do the same because they absolutely dont care about their customers. Just a bunch of excuses which just makes them look really bad. They cost me time and money on an expensive trip and I got offered $15 bucks. Less than the price of lunch in any airport. Again, you've been warned.

I would usually give UA a higher score. I have traveled with them internationally for many years. However the last 2 flights have been delayed for many hours and I have missed my connections. United made up for the missed connection with hotel and food vouchers for the most recent overnight delay which I was grateful for. I am premier gold at the moment, and the wait by phone for customer service (Gold desk) seems to be longer and longer. Maybe United should hire more customer service agents at this time.

United was unable to check in some customers due to a technical issue on their end. Instead of resolving it properly, they handed out slips of paper with just “united.com/refund” written on them (see photo) and told us to request a refund online. I asked that they also cover our hotel and other unrecoverable trip costs. In response, a gate agent named Doris threatened to call the police on me, claiming I was obstructing the line and taking too much time. I was simply advocating to be made whole after United’s failure and demanding an explanation (they eventually resolved their issue with a manager, but it was too late to make the flight). I’ve filed a DOT complaint and submitted a refund request. I'm sharing this here so others are aware: United is a worst-case-scenario airline. Use them only as a last resort. And most importantly — threatening police action to silence a customer is malicious, abusive, and dangerous. Shame on United for allowing this kind of behavior.

First flight was delayed 1 and a quarter hours and the return flight was delayed by 30 min. Otherwise staff was friendly and accommodating. Seats are not very comfortable but was a short flight from PDX to SFO
