As someone who graduated here, please listen to this review. The university’s mission sounds nice. Overall, they seek to better the lives of historically underserved south San Antonio. At least that’s what they say. First, as a student, the only staff I found helpful were in the library, especially my librarian for my subject, Rachel. Everyone else there at the library was super friendly and always made me feel like I had a place there. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the rest of the departments. Financial aid was hard to reach over the phone and over email, and advising seemed lost, but I never saw the same person twice so maybe there’s high turnover. Once you graduate, the only time they remember you is to send you emails about donating to the school. I’m still paying my loans, bro. Really the two stars are for the library…everyone else can kick rocks. Second, I read in SA express that the president is getting over 100k raise over two years. I think that money would be better off going to the professors and staff who do the ACTUAL work. If you students were ever wondering where our money goes, unfortunately it’s not to the people we see working on campus everyday, but to the people who aren’t ever involved with students. Third, campus is SO BORING. They built a McDonald’s off Zarzamora (of course you still have to drive), but that’s literally it. There’s no walkability, there’s no shade between the buildings, there’s NOTHINGGGGG to do. I will say again the professors and library were very good. I could text my professors and even text the library. I used to be scared of libraries as dumb as that sounds, but all the staff at the library were very patient and explained everything well. It was the cleanest place on campus too. All the other public areas to study were musty and dusty.

I had a good experience while getting my degree but a terrible experience visiting the campus. When I was in school there was a visitor parking which only visitors can use but after a few months of graduating, I returned only to receive a citation in that previous visitor parking. After around 5 calls, I learned free visitor parking was removed and replaced by paid visitor parking. I appealed a citation ON MY OWN since the appeal office seems to be shut down since i never receive email replies about the citation in a span of 3 WHOLE MONTHS, I called about a dozen times and each time i am told that the committee members need to gather together to discuss my citation. I give up and don't care anymore. I appealed on day 1 of receiving citation and made many attempts to receive an appeal but never heard from them in 3 months. If the police give parking citations, then should at least give a warning for people who park in visitor parking, as a visitor myself. Also, why even offer parking appeals if it is very difficult to process them. And practically impossible to hear back from them despite trying many times to process my appeal.

Like other ppl have said it's boring here. I understand we're adults now and in charge of ourselves, but with the money we pay (in fees alone haha), you'd think they'd be more helpful. I honestly had a better time at SAC where at least it was cheaper and I could get an email back from financial aid!! I liked hanging out at the library building because they had lots of student space and the ppl who work there are so freaking nice. I was so lost on a paper one time and one of the librarians met with me online and worked with me to find some really good articles.

PROS: Professors are great. Campus is beautiful. Students are okay. CONS: Their Criminology Bachelor of Science program doesn't lay out the entire list of classes you'll need to take. So, you'll get to your "senior" semester just to find out you'll need four additional classes or so just to complete the 120 credit requirement required by the state...EVEN THOUGH you've completed all courses within the program. Their advisors are also never available unless you're a high school student. They've got time and patience if you're fresh out of 12th grade. Otherwise, good luck speaking to an advisor that: 1. Has time within a month to meet 2. Doesn't lack the professionalism to speak to you like an adult instead of speaking to you like you're a child 3. Has people-person skills versus a person with brain rot, cant make eye contact, speaks as fast as they type, etc.

Have gone multiple times with our son who will graduate during Covid 2020 and before the pandemic hit. Staff for my family and I have always been helpful from pointing parents to the right direction, to asking a simple question like, "Where are the restrooms?" Ring ceremony during Covid was planned out PERFECTLY! We're just so happy our son will break the mold and graduate locally and better his future. More than mom and dad did. I have not one complaint! Thanks!

Currently a student (Senior). I must say, this is NOT what I was expecting from a University. You pay an insane amount of fees which exceed the tuition cost itself. Parking is a joke, along with the campus police and the citations. This place is a clear money grab. The reason I chose this college was because of the options and availability for classes and electives that I was interested in learning. Fast forward, they hardly have any options available for classes that can be taken. I also had experienced where the "school" decided to opt into an agreement regarding our school books and software that are used for the courses, turns out, they do IN FACT charge you $150+ which also does not include the software such as "Cengage or McGraw" that is in addition, which they add it to your tuition and that cost is ADDED after tuition cost have already been paid (Summer 25), so if you're not paying attention to your email (Jag email) you lose out on opting out, however, you opt out, good luck obtaining your school stuff needed such as software and books! When I called to inquire about this (Spring 25), no one could answer. Then the girl was frustrated because the funds taken out of my bank account for tuition payments was NOT reflecting the payments listed on my student activity detail. So she hung up on me. Here I am about to apply for graduation, that's ANOTHER $50.00 cost you must pay. Professors are not great as they use the same "lectures" and "videos" from years prior, like they were made 3+ years ago. I just want to be done with this chapter in life cause it truly is a joke!
