One word that I feel best describes Salt Lake Pottery Studio is “warm”. It’s the warm natural light that floods the beautiful and open studio during the day. It’s the warm welcome you receive every time you walk through the door. It’s the warmth of friends and a community that is there to support you not only in your ceramic journey, but in your personal journey as well. I don’t know if I will ever find a space as wonderful as Salt Lake Pottery Studio. Pottery is a very humbling practice, and as a perfectionist, I slowly adapted the phrase “it happens” into my lifestyle (who knew dirt could test your patience so much). Pieces may flop, glaze may run, and the kiln gods might not always be so kind to you- but in this space, amongst all of your success’ and lessons, the community will always be there cheering you on. I had been living in SLC for about 6 months and found that I really need two things. 1) a creative outlet and 2) friends. I was new in town and had some friends, but moving somewhere and starting fresh is a very hard thing to do, especially when you are a remote worker. I was poking around studios and found SLPS. I took my first intro to wheel throwing 4 week course there in Jan 2024, immediately took my second returning beginner 4 week course in Feb 2024, then became a member in March 2024 and have been at the studio ever since. All of the teachers at the studio are extremely knowledgeable and supportive during your learning journey- and the classes themselves are laid out in such a wonderful way where you really dive into the process and have the skills to start moving forward on your own afterwards. Being a member, you see how everyone in the community is so excited to be there. We all love sharing tips, tricks, and techniques in order to see our friends grow in their ceramic practice. This studio has truly changed my life for the better and I can’t image my life without this space or without the friends I have made along the way. I highly recommend this studio to anyone. You’ll not only learn an ancient craft that has connections to all of us, you’ll also feel a warmth around you every time you walk through the front door.

I’ve taken multiple classes here and always have an amazing experience! The beginning wheel throwing class was such a fun date night. I also did the stain glass workshop which helped me develop a new skill. I created a bowl and plate set which turned out amazing! I love creating meaning art every time I go to Salt Lake Pottery Studio. The pieces I’ve made I will cherish forever and hope to pass down to my children.

Edit 2: Salt Lake Pottery Studio Try #2 was awesome. They changed how the painting process went, with people selecting their paints themselves and no refilling of paint anymore. My pottery came out great this time and had no weird problems. I did a Loki painting experience and loved it. My old mug unfortunately did end up cracking severely from water seeping inside but I was able to get a planter that I am looking forward to using. The owner willing to right the wrong was really awesome and I do look forward to trying a pottery class next with friends! Edit: the Owner reached out and was kind enough to offer me a return visit to try them out! Will update afterward. My pottery was returned damaged. I did a very fun event at Loki Coffee, where we painted mugs and saucers. It was a great event, but I saw the staff reusing the paint (refilling the unused portions) which concerns me for quality. Additionally, we were not even given notice the pottery was ready for pickup. When I went, I found there were baked-on shards of clay all over underneath the glaze they add on after, and the staff didn't offer any help. They knowingly fired this with shards all over the pottery, or it is something that happens sometimes. But given how expensive this was, the experience was disappointing. I have been to a different pottery painting business that managed to give me back CLEAN pottery with my designs intact. Also, when I wash the saucer, the water seeps into the clay and discolors the dish. This is concerning as I don't think it will last at all. This experience was disappointing to say the least and given how nothing was done to rectify this, I'm not coming back.

I attended one of their Sip & Paint classes they did with Sauce Media Group. It was seriously the best Saturday morning activity. Everything from the organization, atmosphere, instruction, and paint/ceramic options was absolutely perfection. It was great for beginners and experienced painters alike. I absolutely loved it and will 100% be signing up for a wheel class soon.

Salt Lake Pottery Studio is the best studio in Salt Lake! I attended the Sip & Paint event for dog bowls, and it was such a great experience! The atmosphere was fun and I loved the variety of colors and designs to choose from, and it was the perfect way to get creative while socializing. I also love that they offer amazing memberships and classes. The staff is incredible, and they really make every experience so enjoyable!
