I would leave zero stars if possible. For a 4 hour and 51 minute flight my dog was stuck in a crate for 12 hours. Why? Because when we arrived in Portland they decided to wait for the flight from Maui to arrive so they didn't have to make 2 trips.
I was told by the staff in Honolulu that as soon as we land the animals are offloaded first and taken directly to the cargo facility because it's "air conditioned and it's like a panic room for dogs". I needed to pick him up immediately. It took almost an hour for the luggage to come out and I was super stressed because they said I needed to be there immediately. I look up the cargo facility address on Google and we race over there. Guess what? It's not there. And, there's no phone number on any of the paperwork I received. No address either. Now I'm REALLY freaking out.
Lucky for me, several months ago I dropped my dog at the cargo facility and vaguely remember where it's at. After driving around for a while we finally found it. It's now an hour and 20 minutes after we landed. I'm thinking I'm in trouble for being so late. Nope. We ended up waiting until after midnight for my dog to arrive. This is in violation of Hawaiians contract. They are required to have the dog there within an hour and a half. According to the guy at the facility this is a very common problem with them. It's blatant animal abuse. All to save them a few bucks.
