I needed airline tickets, a car and a hotel room so I booked all three on Hawaiian Airlines website (actually on the HA-branded Expedia website). This was the third booking made via Hawaiian and will probably be my last due to the problems I encountered (again). The savings aren’t worth the hassle, which I will detail below. HNL-LAS (Aug. 29): I checked in via the HA app and found that my boarding pass didn’t reflect TSA Pre-check. This was the third consecutive trip that this occurred. In every case I had to go to customer service at the terminal to “fix” it. My first name and middle initials were combined, and this failed the name check for TSA. I never have this problem when I book a flight directly with HA, but this problem reared its ugly head in all three packages purchased through HA (but handled by Expedia). Calling HA didn’t help; I was told to call Expedia. Calling them didn’t help because I had already checked in. Uh, Catch-22, I don’t see the problem until I’ve checked in. My name appeared correct on all the correspondence from HA / Expedia. Note: I’ve never encountered the problem on the return flights. So, I saved money by obtaining a package from Hawaiian, but continued problems have led me to discontinue doing so in the future. Flight HA 76 was uneventful; it left Honolulu on time and arrived early in Las Vegas. Service was fine and the food was good. LAS-HNL (Sep. 1): Flight HA 5 was supposed to begin boarding at 5:50pm and depart at 6:35pm. The gate agents kept stalling by stating the plane was being cleaned. Yeah, sure. Finally, an agent announced that, due to a malfunction, we won’t be departing tonight, and she couldn’t tell us when. She stated they arranged rooms for us at The California Hotel (downtown), and to retrieve our luggage at baggage claim. However, except those that booked their trip via Vacations Hawaii, we were on our own to get to the Cal and back. We would be updated via the HA app / email / text when the flight was scheduled to depart. Not having any luggage checked, I went directly to the parking garage and arranged an Uber to The Cal. Once there, I was the third person to check in. I was told I had a $20 food credit and to charge my meal to my room to utilize the credit. I ended up dining in Redwood Steakhouse. My meal of a warm spinach salad, short rib pappardelle, a gin & tonic and a glass of wine cost $93.70; $20 was enough to cover the tip. I was concerned about getting updated by Hawaiian as I couldn’t get a signal from Verizon Wireless in the hotel. I had to connect to the hotel’s WiFi and then received the notice that HA 5 would be departing at 6:35am on Sep. 2, with boarding to commence at 5:50am. After a somewhat sleepless night, I checked out at 3:40am and Uber-ed back to the airport. 5:50am came and went and we still hadn’t begun to board the plane. The signage didn’t provide much comfort … It stated departure as “Est. 6:35am”. However, even with at least two dozen wheelchair customers, we completed the boarding process by 6:35am but sat at the gate for a while. The captain stated something about waiting on load balancing, which I presumed meant they were adjusting the load in the cargo bay to get the plane’s CG in the desired window. Whatever, we left a little late but arrived early, at 10am HST. Service onboard was great; they kept apologizing for the delay even though they weren’t responsible. However, I don’t have a good feeling about Hawaiian Airlines right now. This is the second significant delay in my last 6 flights: a terrible blotting on their record of on-time performance. Is it just a run of “bad luck” or has the changes being instituted by Alaska having an impact on Hawaiian? I don’t know and I don’t like it. This flight cost me more than $3,200, and for that I expect the trip to be problem and stress-free. I don’t have to fly on Hawaiian; there are alternatives.

Worst flight experience ever, I would give them a Zero if I could.. The check in luggage line had 1 woman working the counter with 100's of people in line. It took over 45 mins for luggage check in. The security line was just as bad with 2 machines working to scan us through. We got there 2 hours before our flight and barely made the boarding. Once on the plane, we Sat in the plane for an Hour and half waiting for the crew?????? You kidding me, you load the plane and you do not have a pilot??? Once we land, we have to sit on the runway because no one was there to flag the plane in, so they say. Then our luggage took 20 mins after we all unloaded. With them frantically pulling off luggage that was supposed to transfer to other location. Fastest I've seen them work taking care the luggage error. Hawaii Airlines, under staffed?? Or just bad?? Hawdian airlines should be ashamed.

1/2025 Had a great experience flying into ICN and out of HND. Crews and service were a pleasant experience! As always! They simply rock it!! 😉🤘✌️ 3/27/22 They're rocking it! 5/09/22 Big military check-in this morning. HA crew managed it pretty well. Exercised a little patience for them and our service members. Check-in was smooth, and I still had time for a quick cup of coffee in the always friendly lounge. Keep rockin it guys and gals. 🤙✌️😉 1/2023 Quickie to San Jose to see the Niners kick Cowgirls butt! Nice flight! 🤙✌️ 9/2023 I just rode Southwest last month to get to Maui to assist. I'm glad I had to fly out on it due to a lack of flights. First, and last time. While locals staff ticketing and term8nal positions, flight crews, a little bit different. They would really benefit from a Hawaiian Airlines training class! I'm personally glad Hawaii has its own airlines. My ride is here! Mahalo HA!! 😉🤙✌️ p.s... Don't ever go to first come, first serve boarding! It's ridiculous!! 🙏 2/2024 They're still flying high....🤙I

If you’re flying inter-island, Southwest is hands-down the better choice—two free checked bags, no hassle. Every time I fly Hawaiian Airlines, I find myself back here giving them yet another 1-star review. Whether it’s HNL, ITO, or KOA, the service is consistently disappointing. It’s like they’re competing to see which location can be worse.

Hawaiian Airlines has a much better operation and organization in Honolulu. They occupy most of the gates at Terminal A. The ground crews handled the jobs better than at the other airports. The flight attendants also take care of their jobs professionally. Flying by Hawaiian Airlines in Honolulu is more enjoyable.
