The location I picked was remote and not many professionals were willing to take up this challenge. Being a solo female traveler and vegan was taken into consideration ensuring safety and ample of food choices despite being in a such a remote location. Daily check ins as to availability of service as promised and any trouble shooting if required were made, further ensuring my comfort. Risal my guide was very knowledgeable and more than happy to share their cultural practices and beliefs. The conversation never ceased through hours of driving through palm oil plantations to reach Sukau from Sandakan. Borneo Nature Lodge is a beautiful hidden gem amongst the forests of Sukau where the only access is via boat. Excellent team who looks after you and guides you through the river cruises where sightings of different species of monkeys, pgymy elephants, birds and trees can hold you captive for hours. A special shout out to the chef who managed to surprise me with a beautiful tasty different vegan cuisine at each meal. The beauty of this island is accentuated further by the beautiful, kind and caring people I met on this journey, all hand picked and curated by Global Journeys.
