This airport used to be a wasteland that no one had maintained for what looked like 20 years. The buildings were in decay, the fuel tanks were leaking into the soil, all the facilities were run down... until the new owner came in and within a couple of months had transformed the buildings, removed the fuel tanks that were causing and environmental hazard and replaced with modern fuel trailers. The runway still needs paving, thus the loss of a star. It is a private airport and there is a landing fee, but when a unexpected snow storm shut down Anacortes I was forced to diver there and that goodness it was there. We were able to confirm from the new airport cameras it was clear enough to land. I contacted the owner and he allowed be to park in a hanger for a couple of night until I could retrieve the airplane. I was happy to pay the $20 landing fee. I can't believe how much hate some pilots are giving the new owner because he invested millions so they could continue to have an airport on the island and has the gall to raise rents to market rate. I for one am happy someone is investing in saving an airport, rather than turning it into condos. When we lose an airport, it is forever. Paying a bit more for a hangar or landing fee is better than no option at all. If you don't like fees, pretend it does not exist, because without those fees, it wouldn't.

Being a local aircraft enthusiast when I found out the airport had sold I sought out the new owner and was impressed with his vision and enthusiasm for the future of the airport. I am encouraging help from the local aviation community by supporting his progress toward his vision. Our local elected political representatives should be encouraging enterprise and ingenuity, lend advice and help open doors for those like Robert who risk their private fortunes and build businesses that will be of great benefit to our communities. I have heard rumor that if neighbors work with DeLaurentis Airport and Robert is able to acquire or trade some property we as a community will be able to have Life Flight fixed wing transport land and take patients long distance for medical procedures without having to do the multiple mode transport shuttle. My hat is off to you Sir..! John Stevens

Wonderful airport at Oak Harbor, privately funded with an incredible vision to transform it from a very neglected place to a thriving airport. The recent changes and investment is absolutely inspirational. Nice pilot lounge, Wi-Fi, and friendly staff.

Spent the night in a makeshift bed in the back of my plane so I could run a late night leg in the Ragnar race with my daughter. The nice and clean bathroom and shower in the pilot lounge were a great way to wake up. Nice runway and facilities.
