This is by far one of the nicest smaller airports I've ever flown into.

Great airport and friendly staff. The only negative is the complete lack of cell.service to get a clearance from the plane, they have a cell repeater in the office, so you basically have to be in the office to call and get a clearance. Other than that its a great place to stop for a day or two.

2023-07-09 My brother and I flew my C172D to KJSO on Sunday for fuel and use of the courtesy car. Although the FBO is closed on Sundays, Clint Goff answered our call and drove over to the FBO to provide us a key to the car. Most kind! The FBO is clean, spacious, and perfect for an extended stay. The courtesy cars are late models and in excellent condition. A short ten minute drive to town for a wide variety of restaurants. Did I mention the cheap fuel? Bonus! I'll definitely visit again in the future.

Cherokee County Airport in Jacksonville, TX is a great stop for any reason. The new manager is awesome and she is a native to the area. She is passionate about making sure everyone she encounters gets a good dose of Jacksonville and their Southern hospitality. She even arranged for a rental car to be here waiting for my client and made hotel reservations for us. We landed just prior to evening storms and they took the initiative to put our plane inside although we didn’t ask for it. There are no after hours fees, ramp, handling, landing fees either. But, please be generous with the staff AFTER HOURS. They come in after hours on their own time without compensation or receiving comp-time from the County! The fuel prices were 4.93/gal (April 2024) for 100LL. Crew room has four loungers, a PC for flight planning, coffee, vending machine, and they loan the crew vehicles (one of which is an Excursion-that I topped off at the fuel pump for at $2.95/gal). As pilots, we need to respect and appreciate the benefits of hospitality we get when they’re available. Things to do as I did… 1.) Try JW’s Barbecue (be early) 2.) Go to Beverly’s Country Cafe 3.) Go to Neighbor’s Coffee 4.) Stay at the Holiday Inn Express (ask for a King Suite (away from the road) or Best Western. There are No Hilton hotels here. 5.) If you’re coming to Jacksonville just to check it out, absolutely go when the PRCA Rodeo is in town! I missed it this year by a week. That’s the luck of a charter pilot! Ask John at the airport about the Vietnamese Catfish house. I tried Catfish King but didn’t appreciate the service and quality (or lack thereof) of the frozen food experience which I can get anywhere.
