People whining about bad service are the same people who don’t arrive early enough for an international flight. ARRIVE 4 hours in advance. If you arrive only 2 hours in advance you have only yourself to blame. Even 3 is not enough. We had an easy check in of both bags and document check. Our attendant Sol was professional and helpful. AVIANCA is located at the south end of MIA. The check in area is in the middle of Concourse J, near Door 29. Then the security entrance for J is at the end of Terminal S, concourse J. AND MAKE SURE you understand the baggage rules. Buy the flex ticket and you get a free 50lb check on, free 22lb carry on, and a personal item, which can be a backpack. WEIGH your bags at a Publix. Don’t rely on cheap baggage scales. Again, you fail to follow the requirements, you are responsible for your own bad experience.

Avianca is the worst airline I’ve ever dealt with. Their customer service is beyond unhelpful—they play games on the phone, avoid giving direct answers, and never truly assist you. Every experience I've had with this airline has been frustrating, but my most recent incident takes the cake. I accidentally booked a flight to Costa Rica for June instead of July. I noticed the mistake and called just three days later to change the dates. You’d think that would be a simple fix, right? Wrong. They refused to help or offer any kind of refund or credit. Instead, they told me modifying the flight would cost an additional $250—more than the original ticket. This airline doesn’t care about customers. They exploit any small mistake to charge outrageous fees and make money off your misfortune. It’s predatory and dishonest. Avoid Avianca at all costs. They're not just disorganized—they're scammers.

They didn't understand documentation with my service animal and made us miss our direct flight..added 16+ hours to our trip home and then didn't take any responsibility for their mistake. Customer service said I didn't present the document, so they didn't owe me anything. Trash company

They charged me (I paid) $250 for 2 carry ons from WA DC to Lima, Peru (with connection in Bogota, Colombia). I was told at the counter that I could pay in advance online and it was cheaper that way. I paid online for One checked bag that I did not take with us and they refused to give me credit towards my carry ons. In the return flights, I paid online $200 for the 2 carry ons and when I got to the counter they informed me that I needed to pay $250 because the $200 was for our flight from Lima to Colombia (our connection) and the flight from Colombia to WA DC was an additional $250. Still no credit from my already paid “round trip checked bag” that I never took with me. The counter lady refused to do anything because according to her there was nothing she could do. I asked for a superior and he said the same. Another lady came from behind the desk and told us to call customer service and the best they could do was “CHARGED US $120” for the Bogota to WA DC. But the lady behind the desk said I Would of pay $250 if I would pay her for the ENTIRE Return trip. So, I paid $320 for the return flight for the carry ons, apparently they were giving us $200 credit but still needed to pay $120. 😡 They are horrible! Don’t trust them! 😡

Avianca forced me to pay $500 in extra baggage fees because their Miami staff refused to check me in, even though I had valid documentation as a dual U.S. and Brazilian citizen I presented a valid U.S. passport, Brazilian RG, CPF, and birth certificate. They still told me I’d be denied entry into Brazil (completely false), and refused to board me. I spent over 4 hours pleading with agents, and only after I paid $500 to put my bags under my wife’s name did they finally let me on, after admitting I should’ve been allowed the whole time They later tried to cover it up by claiming I made the charge at 10:31 PM and did it “voluntarily.” I just got confirmation from Capital One that the charge was made at 6:42 PM, while I was still stuck at the counter being denied boarding Avianca offered me a $140 voucher. I rejected it. They keep dodging facts, and ignoring evidence I've filed with the DOT, ANAC, BBB, and my credit card company. This airline is dishonest, disorganized, and absolutely not worth the risk Fly anyone else.
