First ever train ride going from ATL to PA. Staff at ATL station were very helpful to a newbie. On the way there, not the newest train but met nice ppl - the staff and other riders. Nice scenery in some spots (VA and beyond). The train got better once we got to switch trains in the Northeast and I guess that's because they rely on Amtrak more for daily commuting. They overall had much nicer trains and stations. The one in Atlanta isn't horrible, but it doesn't have the architectural detail as the stations in VA and beyond. The trip back was very nice, newer train and smooth ride arrived on time both ways. And the coach seats were far more roomy than anything you'd get on a plane. 2 50 lb bags with for free with each ticket and a 25 lb carry on allowed. If you got the time, it's a good way to relax and save money and see a bit of the country.

This was a very Great experience! Make sure to get a Roomette if you want to enjoy yourself. The service was great, the room was very small but enough for two people to utilize. I slept on the top bunk!

The trip on the train was good. However, at the Salisbury North Carolina station the train attendant refused to help my 85-year-old mother with her luggage. He stated that βif she wanted help with her luggage, she should go to the Charlotte North Carolina station next time.β We were assured she would have help when she boarded the train. I think his refusal to help was incredibly inappropriate.

The perfect experience traveling to New Orleans! Staff was perfect, not too happy with the food in Traditional menu, did not eat it. Went to cafe for food

I personally don't think that I want to do a long train trip again. If the sleeper cars were cheaper, I would. The seats are big and spacious and you can recline all the way back in them and bring your tray to you, but they are hard and uncomfortable. The conductors are rather rude about you using the empty seat next to you. I just hated the way most things went. The bathrooms being out and no one to actually tidy them up. Why isn't that an option? You can't hire a janitor for each trip? I say just bring your own everything. Wipes, soap, tissue, sanitizer, toilet seat covers, and paper towels as a safety precaution.
