Academy Sports has a solid selection—you can usually find what you need if you already know what you're looking for. The store is well-stocked across categories, from athletic gear to camping equipment and footwear, and the prices are competitive. So if you’re on a mission with a specific item in mind, you’ll likely walk out satisfied. That said, customer service is a real mixed bag. There are often several team members in blue shirts around, but they don’t always approach customers who look clearly confused or in need of help. I’ve had more than one moment standing in the aisle, scanning shelves, looking visibly unsure, and still—nothing. No acknowledgment. No offer of help. Just silence or side glances. It's frustrating, especially when you're trying to navigate a large store and time is tight. It’s not that the staff is unfriendly—they’re just inconsistent. Sometimes you get someone super helpful and attentive, and other times, you feel invisible. This is especially challenging for parents or folks trying to get in and out efficiently. Overall, Academy gets the job done, but it’s not always the most customer-friendly shopping experience. I’d love to see more proactive support on the floor. A simple “Can I help you find something?” can go a long way.

Purchased shoes there today, and a big shout out to Jen in the department! She took her time to be sure I found exactly what I wanted, and was very helpful in getting the right ones for my needs. Also very polite. My experience there today was a pleasure.

I recently visited Academy Sporting Goods and was impressed with the cleanliness and organization of the store. I was in search of a comfortable pair of tennis shoes and appreciated the wide selection available. However, I found that the prices were noticeably higher—about 20 to 30 percent more than what I had seen at other retailers, both in-store and online. Due to the price difference, I chose not to make a purchase and instead bought a comparable pair online at a more competitive price.

Went in to purchase disc golf items at the beginning of August and found none. I asked several store clerks and they each pointed me in opposite directions in the building. Finally, I was able to ask a manager who told me they didn't carry any, which is very odd due to other Academy stores carry them. I would also add that the store was very messy, things not on their proper shelves and items strewn about the floor. I had to go to Dicks sporting good to make my purchase, which was, by the way, very neat and tidy in comparison.
